Heat Pumps

On January 1, 2023, the Department of Energy (DOE) requires new testing procedures for developing efficiency ratings on split system heat pumps. Products that have gone through these updated testing procedures will display SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2 ratings, in addition to the older SEER/EER/HSPF ratings. The 2023 testing procedures are more stringent and will result in lower efficiency ratings compared to the older ratings. As we transition all our products to these new testing procedures, we'll publish both ratings on our air conditioners category page for better comparison. Higher SEER and HSPF ratings mean greater energy savings.

Heat pumps are a very efficient alternative to electric heat. A heat pump works the same as an air conditioner in the summer, but it runs in reverse in the winter to heat your home. The system will be matched with a backup heating source, most often electric heat for those extremely cold days of winter.

Just like our air conditioners, many of our heat pumps have advanced features, such as 2-stage compressors and variable speed fan operation. These features not only improve the comfort level of your home, but can provide additional energy savings as well.
